My Account was Hacked :(

Norton caught Hacktool.Rootkit and Infostealer.Gamania the same day a lot of these people got hacked. Dec 3rd I believe it was, I would have to look at the logs.

I was trying to look for something on FF Somepage, and my PC locked up for a few moments than went crazy blocking stuff. I looked in the log to WTH is was lol, and it was those 2 things.

Guess I should thank my lucky stars. I have a firewall as well and other safeguards, and it still got to the last line in the antivirus, which concerns me, as to just how close I got to having my account taken.

I wish you guys all luck and good wishes, and I hope you get your accounts back, and you shouldn't be blamed or talked about for another person commiting a crime against you.

Edit: And in the log where it says the date the definition was received or updated with the most recent version it says n/a, the only 2 like that, so I really don't know how it caught them.

Did you miss the part where most virus scanners didn't pick this up?

This is where the rootkit comes in as it will scan for things that a normal scanner wouldn't scan for.

Don't just use the quick scan. Scan the whole thing every file every time. If you have to set up your computer to alert you when something goes on if you're using internet explorer or even firefox.

Yes Trippy I realize I am quite compulsive on scanning, but CC info does get put onto my laptop as well as other information so I try to make sure if there is a virus on here it gets nuked to hell and is gone.

Norton and AVG don't find it, nor to most scanners because its not in thier definitions yet (and i check for updates daily). The only way people are finding them is through a MANUAL scan for SPECIFIC files in the registry.

People got hacked even a week after specific name of the keylogger files were found. People are STILL getting hacked. If they didn't follow the instructions to find the files manually over a week after said files were found... It COULD have easily been prevented had they done so.

This fits in to the "It won't happen to me" category found above.

I don't. The Bureau is a highly effective tool. Is Square-Enix USA based in San Francisco? You could even file a report with their Chamber of Commerce on the horrific customer service you're getting.

Its the hackers fault it happened. But you can safeguard yourself by not being a moron. You all completely took things out of perspective. Sending something to SE won't fix it. They aren't the police. Safeguard yourself.

That's right, Jamal. I wasn't checking myself, someone obviously was. I'm arguably one of the most consistantly profitable weekly characters, as well as the most efficient damage dealer in the game. My friends have great gear and gilmaking abilities, yet they're not hacked.

If you take a convertible to downtown Gary IN, leave it there, it will get stolen. Go to the police, and they'll laugh in your face for being a fucking moron. The world is not white-bred suburbia...especially the internet. Take necessary precautions, or don't fucking whine when you get hacked. Don't play the woe is me card. True, its not your fault, I may have used that phrasing earlier, but that was not my intent. My apologies for that. But it is a preventable offense, which oddly only a few people seem to see. Rather than blaming SE for not following guidelines they've had for years, do the best you can to safeguard yourself.
