Ladies, and gentlemen today’s news report has prompted me to write a special article. Dalamud has grown ever larger, and Garlemald has begun plotting the use of long forbidden ancient magics. Eorzea now stands upon the brink of the seventh umbral era. Square Enix today announced two things; the welcome back campaign, and the legacy campaign. I wish to shed some light upon the later as we approach the coming storm.

April 26th, the launch of patch 1.22 will usher in a host of new updates to the game. Within those updates hides a warning “Patch 1.22 will see the Empire unleash a new weapon to wreak havoc upon Eorzea, which continues its plunge into chaos.” What is this new weapon? How will it affect the continent of Eorzea? Does it relate to the events fortold to us within the roadmap to 2.0?

I aim to answer these questions.

I shall not spoil any story that has not been written of already. The empire seeks ancient technology which lies buried from the remnants of the 4th astral era, an era in which they believe they may find mastery of the ancient magics long forbidden. Square Enix has been dropping some other hints as to what soon may be coming.

Another piece of evidence we may want to examine is what we saw within the roadmap to version 2.0 so long ago. Within the FFXIV 2.0 outline on page 6 we see a massive pillar of the earth in a piece of concept art with an interesting preface to the side of it.


One day, a massive geological anomaly suddenly appears from
deep within the ground.
Current players will have the opportunity to unlock
the mysteries surrounding this strange, new landmark
in the coming months.

Ladies, and gentlemen, I’d say we’re about to have a major problem. Could this be Eorzea’s answer to the coming of Dalamud? Could it be a test of Garlemald’s mastery over the ancient magics? Or, could it be the rise of the crystal foretold within this very legacy campaign? Only time will tell but I can say one thing for sure.


Now is the time to band together.
So we may greet the coming storm.
Old and new shall witness dusk.
As our world we witness turn to dust.
Hand in hand shall we rise.
Or torn asunder shall we fall.
Raise thy blade, and return to Eorzea
